On Wednesday, her management organization and USA Track and Field made the sad announcement that Bowie had passed away. There was no indication of what caused the death.
“USATF is deeply saddened by the passing of Tori Bowie, a three-time Olympic medalist and two-time world champion,” said Max Siegel, CEO of USA Track and Field, in a statement. Bowie won three medals at the Olympics and two world titles. “She was a tremendously talented athlete, and her contribution to the sport has left an incalculable mark; we will miss her very much.”
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Orlando, Florida stated that deputies responded to a home in the region on Tuesday afternoon “for a well-being check of a woman in her 30s who had not been seen or heard from in several days.” The woman had not been seen or heard from in several days.
According to the report written by the sheriff’s office, the body of a lady who was “tentatively identified as Frentorish “Tori” Bowie (DOB: 8/27/1990)” was discovered inside the residence. There were no indications of any kind of wrongdoing.”
Bowie was a sprinter and a long jumper when he was growing up in Sandhill, Mississippi. He was encouraged to participate in track as a teenager and soon ascended through the ranks of the sport. She earned a degree in long jump from Southern Mississippi University, where she won both the indoor and outdoor NCAA titles in the long jump in 2011.
At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, Bowie earned silver in the 100-meter dash and bronze in the 200-meter dash thanks to her electrifying performance. After that, she competed as the anchor runner for the gold-winning 4×100 relay squad that also included Tianna Bartoletta, Allyson Felix, and English Gardner.
One year later, she took first place in the women’s 100-meter dash at the global championships in London in 2017. Additionally, she was a member of the gold-winning 4×100 relay team.
“She was very enthusiastic, sparkling personality,” said track coach Craig Poole, who worked with Bowie early in her career and again later on. Poole also worked with Bowie later in her career. “I had a great time collaborating with her.”
On social media, members of the track and field community expressed their sadness at Bowie’s passing. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, a Jamaican sprinting sensation, said the following on her Twitter account: “My heart breaks for the family of Tori Bowie.” A formidable adversary as well as a source of light. Your vitality and grin will remain in my memory forever. Rest in peace.”
Lolo Jones, a hurdler for the United States, agreed, saying, “Too young.” I’m absolutely devastated to learn about Tori Bowie. Incredible talent. A gorgeous runner. I will pray for the peace of her family, and I am grateful that you have blessed us with her. A devastating loss has been suffered by the running community.
Long jump Olympian Brittney Reese, who won three medals for the United States in the Olympics, wrote: “I’m so heartbroken about this… You have made a lot of people proud. Thank you for representing our state of Mississippi as well as you did…. Rest in peace!”
After being abandoned in a foster home when she was a baby, Bowie was taken up and raised by her grandmother. She thought of herself as a basketball player and only unwillingly turned up for track, but Bowie was a quick learner and went on to win state championships in the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash, and the long jump before she went to college.
Her bronze medal from the World Championships in the 100-meter event in 2015 was her first big international medal. After she had won, she said, “my grandmother always told me that I could accomplish anything I set my mind to throughout my entire life.”
Icon Management featured a photograph of Bowie making the shape of a heart with her hands in a tweet that they published on Twitter. The management organization expressed their sadness in a letter that read, “We’ve lost a client, dear friend, daughter, and sister.” Tori was a winner…a guiding light that shone with such a brilliant brilliance. Our hearts are shattered beyond repair, and please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
